Liberation Is Peace

Existence Without Expectations Is Where Peace Resides

Speaking from Stillness is a fun series transcribing unscripted thoughts while on morning dog walks in my jungle valley. I walk in stillness, then allow whatever arises to get recorded and transcribed. I try to keep them short. The transcript is lightly edited for clarity.

Peace is the outcome of Liberation, of Awakening.

I hesitate to say the ‘State of Peace’. It is more a Quiet Confidence, as my friend Freya writes, a Quiet Confidence of existing, of participating in actions of nature around you.

And being a participant who is not concerned with the outcome, all that is important is the participation. All that matters is to exist, to experience, to participate. in what is happening Now.

Krishnamurti points to this Peace when he says, ‘I don’t mind what happens’. That is a non-concern for an outcome. But it is still a participation in what happens.

Peace is not a bliss or an everlasting joy. There may be situations where joy and awe and bliss occur, as a byproduct of the experience.

There may be sorrow, despair, anger, confusion, distrust, as immediate emotions that appear because of the participation in an experience.

But the joy, and the bliss, and the anger, and the confusion, do not remain. Because the experience is past, and you are now in this one.

Peace is the constant state of returning almost back to a zero.

Experience the next moment, experience (the) next moment…and The Moment is where you are at all times. The outcome, positive or negative, is not important.

A flow state may be that Peace.

When an athlete steps onto the field after years of practice, years of thought, years of planning, years of playing, and then steps onto the pitch and just acts in the best way the body and mind are able to.

When a musician steps on stage in front of a crowd and there is a skill and a capacity that will flow through…when a student takes a test that they’re ready for…when a chef cooks a great meal…those are moments where it’s important not to think too much, not to anticipate too much, not to be concerned with the outcome. It is to feel confident.

That I am ready to do this thing because I know that I am good at it. And regardless of the outcome, I will do my thing.

The Peace of Liberation is like that.

But rather than having a specific trained skill, your skill is that you exist. If you exist, you are here and ready for any situation that happens. The outcome is not important. And you know that you will exist and be ready for the next moment, and the next moment.

So Liberation becomes that State of Peace.

That Quiet Joy. That Participation.

That Experience that can be summed up as…Existence.

And how wonderful when mere Existence generates…

Peace.
