Surrender Makes No Promises

It Points To Living With What Is, In The Now

Speaking from Stillness is a fun series transcribing unscripted thoughts while on morning dog walks in my jungle valley. I walk in stillness, then allow whatever arises to get recorded and transcribed. I try to keep them short. The transcript is lightly edited for clarity.

The Awakening process makes no promises…there are no fixed outcomes.

If one surrenders to What Is, there is no promise of no suffering.

If one surrenders to What Is, there is no promise of elevation.

No promise of reducing of sorrow or pain or grief.

There is no state to attain that is reward for doing the hard work of learning to surrender. Practicing to surrender. Living a life of surrender. There is no Tony Robbins outcome.

Yeah. It’s not an intellectual game, of believing if you surrender, your life will be better.

Although there is a possibility…non-attachment is a way to reduce suffering. But there are no promises here.

To surrender is more of a pointer.

Who do you surrender to? You surrender to nothing. You surrender to What Is, without wishing that What Is was ‘something else’.

You relinquish ‘something else’. And you reside in What Is…and the next What Is…and the next What Is.

Now, the living in What Is may put a little smile on your face throughout the course of the day.

But maybe the most important part of living in What Is, is that you’re not distracted by what might be, or what could be, or what should be. You are focused on, and living in, and marinating in, What Is.

That means that every sensation is felt more. Every emotion is felt more. Every moment is seen more clearly. Synchronicities appear, not because you’ve done something right, but because you’re in this moment. And synchronicities occur in this moment. And synchronicities can only be seen in this moment.

So it’s not surrendering to something external, it’s surrendering to this moment, to What Is, not to what-is-not, and that is surrendering to yourself.

It’s the surrendering of your identity, the surrendering of your finite-self, with the ego, with wants and desires, and surrender that to What Is.

Wants and desires and protection of self, and feeding and providing, that all happens through the body and mind. But that happens in The Now.

Surrender makes no promises, and feeling everything more clearly and fully in The Now may mean some deep pain and sorrow and grief.

And you don’t side-step it. You step into it…and you feel it.

But instead of fearing it or grabbing it too tight, a new sensation will come in the Next Now.

Surrender makes no promises.

Except, there will always be another New Now.
