Speaking from Stillness is a fun series transcribing unscripted thoughts while on morning dog walks in my jungle valley. I walk in stillness, then allow whatever arises to get recorded and transcribed. I try to keep them short. The transcript is lightly edited for clarity.
Sitting in this deep, dark, wet, foreboding valley,
Feeling I came too far with the impending storms, a little rattled, a little unsure,
And suddenly, Q’anil, my little fox appears, and the cicadas start their singing, and the sun emerges, bringing it all the shades of green, the shades that were one monocolor when the light was behind the clouds…the cheeriness and the joy and the warmth of this space transformed in a moment.
Overbearing, damp and dark…becomes alive, Joyful!
All it takes…that bird is only in this valley…all it takes, is a little bit of light, and a little bit of perspective.
Will it still be hard work to get out of this valley? Yes. Will it still require intense concentration and focus? Yes. Is there still potential for intense rains? Of course.
But a brief view of the sky, a brief view of the sun, is the reminder.
When there is a Knowledge of One, when there is the Glimpse, combined with the Knowing, and the Understanding, and the Experience…
That is the ray of light that can shine in at any time.
To go from ‘This is dark and potentially dreadful’ to ‘Everything is possible!’
It’s not about the constant presence of joy and bliss…but it is the constant shining and shimmering of a light within…which says not that everything is perfect…it says that everything is manageable.
Because when there’s a light within, there’s no need to attach to anything outside, external.
Enjoy the show. Enjoy the light. Enjoy all the greenness. Enjoy the cicadas. Enjoy the wet dogs.
Enjoy all the hard work ahead.
And why not?
Because it is ‘Enjoyment of The Now’.
And what could be better than that.
