Speaking from Stillness is a fun series transcribing unscripted thoughts while on morning dog walks in my jungle valley. I walk in stillness, then allow whatever arises to get recorded and transcribed. I try to keep them short. The transcript is lightly edited for clarity.
Up on top of Cascade Dos. I haven’t been here for a while.
It’s good to see and hear so much water.
We are ending, well, the rainy season has ended.
It’s the beautiful, lush, water-filled season, but soon we’ll dry up.
So this is beautiful to see and to feel.
Did a cold plunge at Elephant Rock just now. Get’em in while you can!
There’s a core concept in Non-duality.
That is, of course, the term Not-Two is Non-duality.
What does that mean?
That means that at the Essence, there is Oneness.
And that Oneness is…Infinite.
Now, Infinite it’s important to define.
Infinite means there are no boundaries, there are no limits,
There can’t be something separate and unique
That has a boundary…within the Infinite,
Because that would be something that would be separate from Infinite.
And that would be something that is Two.
There can be No Two Infinites.
So if something is Infinite,
By human definition,
It Is Everything.
Without limits, without boundaries.
Now, what’s interesting about that is,
If something is Infinite, without boundaries, without limitations,
It cannot see or recognize or appreciate anything other than itself.
So this is where the concept of, in Buddhism, The Void, or
The concept of Emptiness, or the concept of Potential Energy…One…comes from.
Everything in The Void is One, and there is no perspective.
You can’t have perspective, unless there is something watching something else.
Now, that would be a Subject,
Watching something or experiencing something,
And there must be an Object.
So, there has to be at least a Subject and an Object for you to be able to
Gain a perspective and to see something happen.
If there is a Subject and an Object, you can make a differentiation.
But, by definition, they would need to have…boundaries.
The Subject and the Object, for an experience to happen,
In order to have a perspective of an experience happening,
There has to be a Change.
Now, that means there has to be Time,
Elapsing for something to happen.
And there also has to be a place for this to be happening,
That would be Space.
So, in Non-duality, Oneness, the field of Potential Energy,
With no limits and no boundaries, is the Absolute Truth.
That is the basic underlying Truth of Everything.
However, if there is to be Experience,
If there is to be a Now,
Where things occur and Experience,
There must need to be…unique, individual, finite things (that) must seem to Exist.
And these individual, finite things Exist within Time and Space.
And these individual, finite things that seem to Exist, are
Experiencing by interacting with each other.
Humans seem to be unique, finite individuals.
We see things through our sense organs.
We watch them occur and change over Time.
That happens in a Space.
We see things happening from our limited, unique, finite perspective.
But in our existence, things follow laws.
We call them the laws of Relativity.
This is the Relative Reality.
The Paradox at the core and at the center of Non-duality is that
Absolute Reality and Relative Reality both exist,
Both Exist, both are real, both are True.
We do, however, call the Relative Reality an Illusion.
Not because it is not real.
An illusion is something which is real, but it is not what it appears to be.
So, the Experiences that we’re having in the Relative Reality are real,
But we can only understand them from our finite, unique perspective.
But seeing them and Experiencing them from our
Finite, unique perspective is actually doing that,
We’re Experiencing in a perspective of The Now,
On behalf of the One Absolute Field that, by definition, is
Infinite and doesn’t Experience.
It just Exists.
So, the Relative Reality is the
Manifestation of the (One) Absolute Reality.
And that is Non-duality.
